LGL Exclusive: Britney Were

With a multitude of running backs staking their claim as the most dominant in the country, West Coast Angels star, Britney Were, has quietly been going about her business since her transcendent performance in their first match-up of the season.

Does anyone remember their game against the Phoenix? Where she ran for four Touch Downs? And would have clearly won the MVP if not for the fourth-quarter Phoenix comeback? Anyone? Because if you don’t, you’re in for one monster f*cking surprise. With unmatched leg strength and a Kobe-esque thirst for hitting the scoreboard, the power-packed weapon is ready to take back what is rightfully hers; that RB throne.

The Crunch Mag is lucky enough to catch up with Britney before her big game this Saturday against the Brisbane Blaze!

The Crunch Mag
Hey how you going? How’s your team going so far? All ready for your second game against Brisbane Blaze?

Britney Were
Hey, I’m great thanks, oh we are still going strong at trainings and definitely eager to play our next game in Brisbane.

The Crunch Mag
West Coast Angels just missed out on a win against Adelaide Phoenix on your first game and on your home ground. How did the team take the loss?

Britney Were
yeah, it definitely was a shock to everyone involved with our team, as it was such a close game throughout, temperatures were rising because we wanted that win so bad Especially being in our home stadium. Since then we have changed the structure of out playbook both offensive and defensively and are improving both ends of the ball.

The Crunch Mag
You showed massive potential on game one scoring a good amount of touch downs. You also showed that you can run the ball with no fear of getting hit by an opponent. How are you preparing for your next game?

Britney Were
Thank you, yeah I’ve been trying to focus on personal weaknesses that really showed in the first game, such as reading blocks and getting more aggressive. So trainings have been really self learning to become more dominant on the field, hopefully it will show against Brisbane this coming weekend.

The Crunch Mag
Between Tegan, Kahyra and yourself being the stand out on the offense of the WA team, Who are the stand out players on the defense team?

Britney Were
our defence has gained more strength and confidence which is good as so many girls are standing out more and more. Though I’d have to say our strongest girls Lined up for this coming game would have to be Liz (TE), Tessa (SS) and JC (TE) also Rhy (MLB) is definitely up there also, so expect some big hits from our defence.

The Crunch Mag
Tell us in 5 words what Brit Were is all about.

Britney Were
Stands out from the crowd.

The Crunch Mag
How do you rate yourself next to Adelaide Phoenix running back Chelsea Farr? How do you stand out next to her?

Britney Were
I don’t know who she is to be honest, how can I compare myself to someone who’s name or game play I’m not familiar with. I prefer to focus on my own team and how we need to improve as a whole.

The Crunch Mag
For some serious questions. What do you think is the cause of the WA team to fall short on your first home game? And what is the team doing to improve their game.

Britney Were
well I personally feel looking back at game film it was a mixture of our defence not picking up on certain plays quick enough to shut them down and majority of our team being the first game they have ever played live were quite hesitant on contact which contributed to the overall loss of the game. As I said earlier we have changed the structure of our plays both sides and we have really been using the first game as an example to improve and focus on our weaknesses so we are working as a unit and backing each other up on every play.

The Crunch Mag
WA is known for having a strong running game. Will we see a bit of a running game on the next one?

Britney Were
Our run game on offence is our strong point as we have such quick girls in the back field and strong blockers, so you would expect a bit of run game against Brisbane. Although we have improved since our first game and have focused to strengthen our passing game so you should also expect to see some great passes by our quarterback Tegan.

The Crunch Mag
What do you love about the LGL and playing gridiron?

Britney Were
I love that gridiron is so different from any other sport I have grown up with, my background sports are netball and touch rugby so naturally I’m not accustom to constantly getting tackled but I’ve definitely grown to love the sport and being able to play a couple different positions.

The Crunch Mag
Besides the LGL what else do you do outside the league?

Britney Were
Sports wise, at the moment I’m only playing gridiron as it is time consuming, training four nights a week. Though I am also a nursing student.
